About me

Welcome to my portfolio.

Olafs Muiznieks

I studied at the Academy of Art Graphic Design department from 1963 to 1969. Right after graduation started to work at the Latvian Artists enterprise, where for more than 25 years worked on large-scale interior projects as well as created graphic design for many purposes – logotypes and corporate identity, posters and other.

I spent a lot of my time on murals – starting with wall paintings inside buildings from sketch to ready painting and ending with large size graphics for buildings, hangars, and fire walls. I even made iconostasis for a church where my mother was baptised.

As from 1998 I found myself interested in computer graphics. Since 2002 I am a professor at the University of Latvia teaching drawing and 3D computer graphics.

Since 1969 I am a member of the Latvian Artists Society and in May 2017 I will have my 40th solo exhibition. In addition, I have participated in many group exhibitions.

My works are in collection of the Royal Family of Sweden, many museums, and private collections in Latvia and more than 20 other countries.

COLLECTION: SHOCK

“Collection: Shock” marks the moment when artist Olafs Muižnieks puts the realism and computer graphics directions he has cultivated for decades in the background, giving way to playfulness and experimentation. This exhibition consists of works in which the author expressively intertwines, from a visual point of view, the irrationality of dreams, and from a conceptual point of view, the rationality of life. The works do not seek a strictly unified style, on the contrary – they allow themselves to be as diverse as life and dreams themselves, both in thematic message and visual solutions.
